On Saturday last the local Handball Club hosted a section of the National Féile 40x20 finals where they welcomed teams from Windgap and Clogh in Kilkenny, Breacach from Tyrone and Clooney Quin from Clare to join with teams from Cork, including the host club, in a selection of games that got under way from early morning and continued throughout the day to conclude around 7 p.m.
Adjacent to the alley they had erected a tent, compliments of the local Girl Guides to whom they are extremely grateful, where the ladies, the handball wives, were on duty with a selection of sandwiches and cakes that one would find it hard to stay away from.
The highlight of the morning was the visit of National Handball president Joe Masterson, who was accompanied by John Kelly from Croke Park where they addressed the gathering and in doing so referred in particular to the great work the local club do in the promotion of the game of handball and to the quality and high standard of the alley itself.

Clondrohid U10's competed in the 2nd Saturday of the Brian Cronin Memorial Tournament last Saturday.. 16 footballers took the field against 3 worthy opponents. The 1st game vs Banteer was a tough start. Our lads seemed a bit behind the pace of the game with Banteer getting on top with a few bigger lads. This game finished with a loss 2-3 to 0-2. After a short break, Clondrohid played Newmarket. This was a really good game which was in the balance for much of the game. The fine performance rightly produced a win 5-1 to 1-3. The last game against Knochnagree was a pressure one. If we won we would be in the playoff match for the shield final and loose we were out of the competition. A great game followed which even the neutrals were glued to. Knocknagree were slightly stronger and won on a scoreline of 2-3 to 4-0. Well done to all involved. Congrats to St.Peter's who won the cup and to near neighbours Aghinagh who won the shield final.

The Sliabh Luachra Sportive 2019 organised by the local cycling club takes place on Sunday, June 30, and as usual promises to be a fun day of cycling with three options to choose from, all giving participants an opportunity to view the many sights and landscape of Duhallow.
Headquarters for the day is Teach Iosagain in Rathmore and the event itself is in memory of local cyclists, the late Paud O'Leary and Willie Reen and usually attracts a huge entry.
Registration commences at 8.15 a.m. with the 'off' at 9 a.m. with entrance fee set at €20 for Cycling Ireland members and €30 for non-members.
An undertaking such as this requires a huge amount of planning plus stewarding, medical teams, food stations, water stops etc on the day.
The organising committee are to be complimented on the great work they do with their organisational skills and ability there for everyone to see.
The three routes are 105km, 75km and 20km. The 105km will be keenly contested by those who fancy themselves and can do the distance at ease. From Rathmore they take in Ballydaly, Millstreet Town, Millstreet Country Park, Rylane, Nadd, Banteer and back to base.
The 75km will also travel along that route but after the Country Park they will keep straight on at Barretts Cross near the Kerryman's Table and decend to Kilcorney and back to base taking in the fresh air and enjoing the scenery.
The 20km is a golden opprotunity for those who haven't been on the bike for a while to ''get back in the saddle again'' and get a renewed interest in the sport plus of course the casual cyclist who will oil up some old models and enjoy the fun.
The proceeds of the day go to the juvenile section of the club.
