Ballinagree Playground and Walkway was officially opened by The Lord Mayor of Ballinagree Donal Spillane, he made a wonderful speech about growing up in Ballinagree and the wonderful playground that the children of Ballinagree School can avail of now. The Chair of the Playground Committee Aengus Mac Suibhne also gave a great speech and thanked all the rest of the committee for all their hard work, and everyone that helped in any way, and of course but for IRD Duhallow it wouldnt be there at all. The children had a ball flying from swings to tunnels to bouncing castle. Flor had a smashing BBQ, and tea and cakes and sandwiches in the marque. A huge raffle took place with lots of vouchers and plenty of all kinds of drink. Politicians from all Partys were walking round pressing the flesh. All in all a very enjoyable afternoon.
Boherbue Junior 'A' footballers created their own bit of history at Castlemagner on Sunday evening last when they scored a 3-7 to 0-10 win over Lyre to collect their third successive Duhallow Championship title.
And they did so in style showing superior class against a robust Lyre side that tried hard but lacked the necessary guide to overthrow the title holders.
After the final whistle it was a pleasing sight to see joint captains Niall Murphy and Kevin Crremin raise the trophy aloft plus the presentation of the man of the match award to midfielder Andrew O'Connor.
However, the winners still have plenty to work on before their next outing on September 14 in the county trip, an outing that everyone is looking forward to.
Afterwards, a huge crowd gathered on a special platform at the Square complements of Andrew O'Connor and after the formalities all adjourned to the other end of the Main Street where they celebrated late into the night. Congratulations and well done.
The numbers were 7, 14, 19 and 38. Lucky dip €50 Mary Murphy, Kiskeam. €20 each Sheila O'Shea, Kiskeam; Mary Murphy, Kiskeam; Tracey Sexton, c/o Joe O'Connor. Seller's prize: post office.
