The beginning of the Halloween break at Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk, was marked with a special kind of magic as the entire school body along with parents, families and friends honoured the students of 2018 at the schools annual awards ceremony.

Ceist School co-ordinator Catherine McCormack, who was guest of honour at the awards, said that the event affirms the students and staff who are the heartbeat of the school.

"Today we step back and look at your achievements and successes and also the effort that each of you has put into these areas honoured today, and whether you get a prize or a mention, we still congratulate you all on your effort, your dedication and your growth" she said.  Ms McCormack paid tribute to the Mercy Sisters who established schools like Scoil Mhuire and said that the spirit of Catherine McAuley is very much alive and is what guides the school, through Ceist, into the future.

Scoil Mhuire Principal Miriam Downey commended the students on their success. "We encourage every student to achieve his or her ultimate potential and our award recipients today have achieved the highest of standards, showing leadership and achieving the status of role models in their individual areas of success" Ms. Downey said.

"For those students in the audience marking the success of others, you too have talents and I would encourage you to aspire to be award winners next year, I remind everybody that success does not come about by accident - it follows hard work, determination and self belief" she added.
