Annmarie wins major award at the World Fleadh

INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR ANNMARIE: Annmarie O'Riordan of Rathcoole was voted 'Best Newomer' in the Irish scene at Ireland's largest International Music Festival, held at Castlebar last week.

She beat off the challenge of seven other nominees to capture the 'Horizon Award' from a panel of International Judges.

The World Fleadh is Ireland's biggest International Irish Music Festival and ran from July 31st to August 8th.

This latest award further enhances Annmarie's growing reputation as Ireland's newest rising star in traditional genre.

Her latest album-Ireland Love of my Heart is already proving to be a chart-topper.

All in the music industry and of course, her own local community congratulate her on her recent International Award and wishes her every good for the future.

WEDDING BELLS: The marriage took place of Garret Bourke, son of Gerald and Norma Bourke, Donoure, Kilcorney and Elizabeth Kavanagh, daughter of Patrick and Agnes Kavanagh, Troom, Douglas, Cork at St. Kevin's Catholic Church, De Why.

Afterwards, there was an enjoyable reception held at Bilgola Surf Club (which is close to Summer Bay of Home & Away fame). Here their families and Australian friends were in attendance.

They both returned to Cork to accommodate their Irish friends for an Irish Blessing and a buffet meal and dance and post Wedding Celebration at Blarney Golf Resort Clubhouse, Tower, Blarney, which was most enjoyable.

The newly-weds will later head back to Australia, where they will make their new home for some time to come. Congratulations from the community.

BOWLING: The death occurred recently of Brendan O'Sullivan Sally's Cross Kanturk. In his younger days, Brendan was wellknown in the bowling scene around Sally's Cross in the 1940's and 1950's.

A strong and accurate player, he played single and double scores with players, the calibre of Johnny O'Riordan, Denny Foley. George O'Connell, Paddy Dennehy, Johnny McAuliffe and many more players of that era.

A quiet and unassuming man, he w ill be sadly missed by his wife-Hannah -Mary and family, neighbours and many friends.

They spent three great days in Wicklow and visited Powerscourt, Rossboro House and spent some time in Glendalough and the place where Glenroe was filmed.

Some weeks later they paid a visit to the President at Áras an Uachtarán. Here they enjoyed refreshments and along with other groups there on the day they were entertained by Riverdance singer Maire Ó Connell. It was a delightful occasion for the local participants.

The Active Group will resume meeting on September 2nd and new members are very welcome to come along.
