Aghabullogue GAA to host 20k drop fund-raiser

Bill Browne

The Aghabullogue GAA and Camogie Club will next Thursday launch the next phase of a major fund-raisng drive offering people the chance to share in a cool €20,000 in cold, hard cash.

Similar to the TV show 'The Million Pound Drop', the '20k Drop' game show, run by Pallas Marketing, has helped raise thousands of Euros for clubs, schools and voluntary organisations across the country.

The event, which will take place at Pairc Uí Chaoimh on November 3, will see eight contestants selected from the audience receive €2,500, which they then place on what they believe to be the correct answer, or divide the money between four suggested answers.

All money placed on the correct podium stay in place, while the other answers drop their money, with contestants keeping the remaining cash.

Aghabullogue GAA spokesman Denis Keating said the club, which supports 31 different teams at both juvenile and adult levels, has been undertaking a major programme of works at its Coachford grounds.

"In order to meet the demands of our teams and the needs of the local community, we recently completed the development of a floodlit astroturf pitch at a cost of approximately €360,000," said Denis.

He said the majority of the money for the project had been secured through grant aid and a fundraising drive within the local community.

"Through events such as the 20k Drop we are aiming to fully fund the development and look to the future by starting the next phase of our ambitious development plan," said Mr Keating.

He appealed to businesses and groups from around the area and farther afield to come on board as sponsors for the November 3 family night out. Benefits will include on-screen advertising on the night, post-event promotion on the club's website and Facebook page, tax relief on their sponsorship payment and two free tickets to a pre-show reception and even the show itself.

"We very much hope that people will come on board to support this one-off fundraiser and help us realise our long-term vision for this vibrant club," said Mr Keating.

"People can joint us at the launch next Thursday night at O'Riordan's Bar in Coachford.

"For more about the 20k drop, visit the launch or our website or Facebook page," he added.
