Resolution of staff issue to free up late REPS payment

STAFFING problems at the Department of Agriculture in Kerry, which was part of the reason for a huge delay in making REPS payments, has been resolved and all outstanding payments due to Kerry farmers will be made as speedily as possible, Agriculture Minister Brendan Smith has promised.

Minister Smith's statement in the Dáil was in response to questions from North Kerry/ West Limerick Sinn Fein TD Martin Ferris who said: I'm glad that after many months of delays we now seem to have a definitive response from the Minister."

" The delays which have been ongoing since last December have caused real and serious financial difficulties for many farmers right across the county. I am greatly relieved to hear that the staffing issues at the Department of Agriculture in Kerry have been resolved and that the Department has given a commitment to pay farmers as speedily as possible. I am sure that this will come as welcome news for the farming community in Kerry," he added.
