Lecture on Cork crime
The Blarney and District Historical Society will host a free lecture entitled 'Crime and Punishment in Victorian Cork' at Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal on Thursday, January 10.
The speaker at the event, which will kick off at 8pm, is well known and respected local historian Ronnie Herlihy, a leading light of the Cork Parish Historical Society.
He will take the audience on a trip back through time, with his presentation based on a selection of the various crimes, court cases and the punishments that took place during the early Victorian era from 1837 to 1859.
It will show that Cork was a hotbed of criminality during the period, matching anything perpetrated by criminals of the modern era.
