Last weekend saw residents of Millbrook and O’Callaghan Park Housing estates in Kanturk get together to welcome new neighbours and plant a memorial tree.

The Summer celebration was held in the central green and was well attended by residents and children of the neighbouring estates.

There was also plenty of entertainment for children with a performance from Mr. Moonshine Magic who made some marvellous balloon creations for the kids to keep.

Clúid Housing Officer Davina Mooney said the event was a means of bringing the community back together after a long period of isolation.

“We had a number of people move into our estate in Millbrook during lockdown and this is a nice way for them to get to know their new neighbours and hopefully build long lasting friendships.

“Communities have lost out on so much because of Covid and it is great to see children and adults here enjoying this celebration.

“Sadly we have also lost some people over the past few years and the community wanted to remember them too.

“We are doing that today with the planting of a very special memorial tree,” Davina told The Corkman.
