Irish fail to join in EU debate on CAP

IRISH stakeholders are being urged to respond to the EU public consultation on the CAP post 2013.

The deadline for submissions is June 3 and, so far, just one of the 340 submissions is from Ireland.

Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland Martin Territt said: "The CAP has been reformed continually since its creation. The last time it was adapted was 10 years ago and today the EU has 27 member states. A public debate will allow new ideas to emerge and will inform the decisionmaking process on the future of CAP beyond 2013. This public debate has already started and people should make their views known, either individually or through their organisations".

A website riculture/cap-debate has already been set up for contributions. Responses can also be posted to the Representation at 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2. An independent body will then produce a summary of these contributions in June.
