Work your way through Kanturk Arts Festival 2018

The Kanturk Arts festival has a bumper line up for its 10th year in Duhallow. 

There's a number of workshops taking place over the arts weekend, which people of all ages can dabble in and have plenty of banter along the way.  

On Friday morning, March 16th at 10am, an Adult Craft Workshop costing €7, takes place in the Trades Union Hall. It will be a fun, sociable and relaxed occasion and a great way to kick off what promises to be an action packed weekend of non stop activities. Details and booking, contact Viv at 087 8339137.

If anyone fancies themselves as a dancer or just wants a bit of fun, they can join The Swing Dance Workshop which returns by popular demand and takes place in The Edel Quinn Hall on Sunday, March 18. There are two one hour workshops and no booking is necessary, just turn up at the venue. First Workshop is from 1.30-2.30 and second from Cost is €7 for one session and €10 for both.

Also on Sunday, Mallow Camera Club will be on hand at the Trades Union Hall from 11am with their Vintage Photo Booth. To book a slot, contact Jim on 087 6398075. A suggested €5 offering, all donations will go to The now I Lay Me Down to Sleep charity. 

On Bank Holiday Monday, March 19 the Edel Quinn Hall is the place to be. Beginning at 10am, there's a chance for younger people to inspire the artist within when Esther hosts a Messy Play session for 5 year olds and under. The cost is €7 and no booking is necessary.

At 10.30am, at the same venue, artist Deborah O'Keeffe will present an Art Workshop for 6-12 year old. Cost is €7 and to book a place or find out more details, Deborah can be contacted at 089 7038774. Also at 10am, this time down at the Trades Union Hall, Artist Jessica Barron will host a workshop for adults only- Introduction to Oil Painting. Costing €10, places have to be booked so contact Jessica herself at 085 1315708.

Also at the Trades Union Hall, from 2-5pm, will be award winning novelist Denyse Woods, author of a number of novels, including Overnight To Innsbruck and The Catalpa Tree. Denyse was writer-in residence with Cork County libraries and Arts service in 2017.

She was also judge of this year's highly successful Flash Fiction Competition. A wonderful teacher and motivator, Denyse will have plenty useful tips for all aspiring or indeed actual writers out there. This workshop costs €30 and for details and booking phone Mary on 087 6406705.

The final workshop of Festival 2018, 'Draw along with Deborah', takes place at the Alley Bar and is for adults only. Fun night guaranteed, no experience is needed. All materials and one drink is included in the price of €10. To book, contact Deborah at 089 7038774.

The festival is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and over that time has done a wonderful job in promoting the arts locally by giving local artists, writers, photographers of all ages a platform to showcase their work. It is run by a small group of enthusiastic  volunteers who work very hard to ensure there is something for everyone.
