The wait is over as Druid set to bring Beckett's Godot to Cork

The Druid Theatre Company will bring their critically acclaimed production of Samuel Beckett's masterpiece 'Waiting for Godot' to Everyman Palace Theatre for five performance from Tuesday, March 20.

Directed by the Tony Award-winning Garry Hynes, the production features a stellar cast from the Druid Ensemble including Garrett Lombard, Aaron Monaghan, Rory Nolan and Marty Rea.

On a bare road in the middle of nowhere two world-weary friends, Vladimir and Estragon, await the arrival of the mysterious Godot. While waiting they speculate, bicker and joke while also ponder on life's greater questions.

As dusk begins to fall, two figures appear on the horizon.

Regarded as one of the most significant plays of the 20th century, 'Waiting for Godot' is a work that has draw endless interpretations and has been the subject of much debate over the years.

Druid's interpretation of the play premièred at the 2016 Galway International Arts Festival, before going on its 'Unusual Rural Tour during which it played to sold-out audiences at outdoor locations in Glencree, Inis Meáin and the Céide Fields.

Last year it enjoyed a month long run at Dublin's Abbey Theatre, before heading off to the Spoleto Festival in the US, playing to packed audiences at both venues.

The production has won widespread critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike, with the Irish Times describing it as "the freshest, funniest and most affecting production of the play in at least a quarter of a century".

The Everyman Palace performances will be part of a five-week national tour before Druid bring the production to Washington and Chicago during the summer.

Gerry Hynes said the Unusual Rural Tour showed the company just how much of an appetite there was among theatregoers for this interpretation of Beckett's masterpiece.

"We are really looking forward to taking to so many corners of the country and to the US over the coming months," he said.

"For me, it is also fantastic to be able to continue working on this extraordinary show with members of our Ensemble and the whole team that has created something very special."

Tickets for 'Waiting For Godot' at the Everyman Palace Theatre are available from the venue on 021 450 1673 priced at €30/€27 and €15 for students.

Early booking is advised as the five performances are expected to sell out well in advance.
