Teams sought for 2019 Credit Union quiz

Young quiz whizzes from the Mallow area are being challenged to test their brainpower and see if they have what it takes to get to the national final of the 2019 Credit Union Schools Quiz.

Now in its 28th year, the quiz is open to primary schools from across the country, with more than 25,000 pupils taking part in last year's competition.

All schools with Mallow Credit Union's common bond are welcome to register teams of four for the 2019 edition, with the local branch urging children to start forming their teams to show what they can achieve with 'the power of four.'

The road to April's grand final at the RDS in Dublin will start on Monday, February 4 with the local knock-out stage at the Hibernian Hotel, the winners of which will qualify for the regional final in March.

This year a total of €4,000 will be for grabs for the national winners across the different age categories.

Ciara Fitzgerald, marketing manager with Mallow Credit Union said the 'power of four' theme for this year's quiz is aimed at encouraging children to work together and see what can be achieved when they work as a team.

"We see the annual quiz as a fantastic opportunity for schools in the area to nurture a culture of partnership among students, and we would really encourage all schools to get registered for the 2019 event. A core focus of this event is to encourage learning as part of a team to help equip children from a young age with the skills necessary for successful teamwork in the workplace," said Ciara.

"Questions will cover a wide range of topics including geography, history, music, literature and sport, and we have no doubt that all of our budding geniuses will rise to the challenge," she added.

Registration for the 2019 Schools Quiz is now open, and local schools and children interested in participating can contact Mallow Credit Union on 022 21121 for entry forms and for further information.
