Shandrum Céilí Band's 'Boss' new CD

Sheila Fitzgerald

The Shandrum Céilí Band will launch a brand new CD entitled 'The Boss Murphy Collection' in Buttevant Church on Saturday, May 18, at 8pm.

The three-in-a-row All-Ireland champions, who have both collectively and individually played at high profile events across the world, are delighted to present this entire new collection of tunes to their wide fan base.

"It has been a real privilege for the band to record this album of local tunes, especially those who would have made up the repertoire of many of our ancestors," band leader Alan Finn told The Corkman.

"The tunes featured on this CD would have been staples in the repertoire of the old Shandrum Céilí Band, continuing the link between past and present thus ensuring these wonderful and brilliant tunes are reintroduced and retained not only locally but in musical repertoires countrywide and even worldwide" Alan said.

In 2017 The Shandrum Céilí Band became one of only a handful of céilí bands in the long history of the coveted senior céilí band competition to achieve the elusive 'three-in-a-row' thereby, entering the history books to stand alongside legendary bands such as The Kilfenora, The Siamsa, The Ormond, The Ennis, The Táin and The Naomh Padráig Céilí Bands. With eight members from the North Cork area and two from Co. Clare, the band is sure to enjoy massive support at the launch on May 18th.
