Players get ready to hit dancefloor

MEMBERS and players of Charleville Soccer and Rugby Clubs will swop their playing boots for dancing shoes when they compete in a Strictly Come Dancing night at the Charleville Park Hotel on Saturday night 9th May.

Twenty couples were learning the intricate steps of a 15th century French Minuet in the D'Ville Nightclub at the Charleville Park Hotel last week when dance tutor Brighid Harte from Killaloe, Co Clare was putting the enthusiastic participants through their paces in the first night of rehearsal for the big event in May.

The contestants are players and supporters drawn from both clubs.

They will compete in the event, which is fund raiser for both clubs, and is being held in conjunction with the Charleville Park Hotel.

The Malin to Mizen Cycle Challenge, which is being undertaken to raise money for a horse simulator for St. Joseph's Foundation's Liskennet Project for autistic children and adults, will also benefit from the night.

Ms Harte, who runs her own dance company called Shall We Dance, said that over the coming weeks she will be teaching dance routines such as the Argentine Tango, the Charleston, Rock & Roll, Social Foxtrot, the Ballroom Foxtrot, the Jitterbug, the West Coast Swing, Disco Hanky Panky, the Samba and Mambo, the Cha Cha, the Jive, and Slow and Old Time Waltzes.

The dancers from each club will then compete on the 9th May.

Organiser Pat O'Hara of Charleville Soccer Club said that they are looking forward to a great night of glamour and entertainment but they need more couples to dance in the competition and he is requesting any aspiring dancers who would like to participate on the night to get in touch with him at 086-8528904.
