Newmarket Summer Festival

It's summer time, and while the days might be getting longer, they're about to get a lot more lively too - because it's almost time for the fantastic Newmarket Summer Festival.

Running from June 28 to July 7, the annual festival is a feast of activities, entertainment, challenges and colour that keeps the town buzzing for a week and a half until it finally ends with a bang - quite literally - with a fireworks display.

The following is the schedule for 2019.

Friday, June 28:

Festival Opening with Tadhg and Derry Fleming: West End Park.

6pm to 9pm: The Rock Bar Barbecue.

7.30pm: Turbett's Fun Fair at Town Park (open nightly).

9.30pm: Music in TD's Bar.

Saturday, June 29:

Kids Party Club

1.30pm: Denis Kiely (magician), featuring a puppet shop and disco.

3pm to 5pm: Tony Baloney Show, CYMS, in conjunction with the Parish Council.

9pm until late: Music by Tim and Con in Scanlon's Bar.

9.15pm: Music in TD's Bar by Broken String.

9.30pm: Music in High Street Bar by Peter O'Malley.

Sunday, June 30:

9.30pm: The Glenside Folk in the Hi Street Bar.

Monday, July 1:

7.30pm to 9pm: Trad Concert in CYMS, in conjunction with Scullys Fest.

9pm: Scully's Bar, the Monday-night session.

Tuesday, July 2:

9.30pm: Over-60s Talent Show in TD's Bar.

Wednesday, July 3:

5.30pm: Pitch N' Putt tournament. Entry is €3,

7pm: Adult Three-ball. Entry is €5.

There will be prizes for both on the night.

Thursday, July 4:

9pm: Table quiz in Hi Street Bar. A raffle will see proceeds to the Thursday Club and great spot prizes bestowed. For the quiz, it's a €30 entry for a team of four.

9pm: Trad music session with the Glenside Ramblers in the Rock Bar.

Friday, July 5:

9pm: Rock and Roll Bingo at Scanlon's.

9.30pm: Story time in the library.

9.30pm: Music in the Rock Bar with Ger 'Flash' Walsh.

Saturday, July 6:

9.15pm: Music in Scanlon's by Devils Bit.9.15pm: Music in TD's Bar.

9.30pm: The final of the Festival Darts in Dan Hourigan's Bar.

9.30pm: Music by the Céilí All-Stars in Scully's Bar.

Sunday, July 7

2pm: Toy Tractor Run in the Tennis Court.

8pm: Music in the Rock Bar by Broken String

9.30pm: Music in TD's Bar.

9.45pm: The Diamond Sisters in the Hi Street Bar.

10.45pm: Closing fireworks.
