New Mallow studio opens first exhibition of local art

Eugene Cosgrove

West End Art Studios in Mallow are pleased to present their first exhibition 'Reality or Dream' of local professional artists.  This exhibition shows a selection of work from 11 local artists - Grainne Nagle, Mark Kent, Maria Kent, Christine McAuliffe, Mairead Cunningham, Mary St Leger, Claire O'Keeffe, Fiona Kelly, Peter Nash, Cian O'Sullivan and Sarah Buckley.

It includes many different media, from painting to photographs to printing, highlighting the diversity and skill of these visual artists.  As the title suggests, the show highlights the balance between reality and dreams. From the abstract to representative, each of the pieces has an ethereal and fragile feel.  Bold colours contrast with delicate etchings while textures are an integral part of the work.

"It is great to have such a diverse selection of work which sits together so well from these amazing artists," said studio co-founder Sarah Buckley.  "Following on from the amazing support and encouragement we received during Mallow Arts Festival, we want to open the doors as much as possible to welcome everyone into the space and engage with the variety of this exhibition. As we are a voluntary organisation, we are opening Friday afternoons and Saturday for the moment."

West End Art Studios is an artist-led space to support professional artists living and working in North Cork while also engaging with the local community. Through exhibitions, workshops, talks and events, West End Art Studios aims to provide space for professional artists to work, educate, collaborate and exhibit.  Their objective is also to engage with the local community, bringing a new energy and vibe to visual arts in Mallow.  West End Art Studios is grateful for the support of Cork County Council Arts Office and the Creative Ireland programme.
