MILLSTREET received yet another boost this week with news that the town is to host a major endurance challenge event in May.

This, after the town scooped the Cork 20 Rally and the Irish and International Sheep Shearing Championships in recent weeks. And this week, another new amenity was unveiled at Millstreet Country Park - all of which will draw tens of thousands of people into the town over the coming months.

The Green Glens Arena is to host the first event in the Toughathlon Premier Events Series on May 11. Toughathlon's 10km course will take participants through International Arenas, Drishane Castle, ring-forts, rivers and lakes, while a series of extreme obstacles promise a gruelling challenge before the finish line.

Toughathlon events will force entrants of all fitness levels to test their endurance and teamwork and participants will need to rely on each other to complete the course. The 20 extreme obstacles will include military style crawls, ice-pits, log-carrying, and even the chance of mild electric shocks.

After crossing the finish line, participants will enter the International Indoor Arena at Green Glens where the celebrations will continue in a festival atmosphere with live bands, including Cork stalwarts Fred.

Early bird offers are available until March 31. Individual tickets are priced at €50, teams of 4 €45 each, teams of 5 - 20 members €40 each and spectator/after-party tickets are priced at €10. All tickets include entry to the after-party and prizes will be awarded to patricipants who best display a sense of teamwork and camaraderie.

Participants can raise money for their own chosen charities in association with Toughathlon rewards participants who raise money for charity. Participants who raise €100 or more will receive a 30% discount for the next Toughathlon event.
