The public library in Mallow is currently hosting the latest exhibition of paintings by North Cork artist Kathleen Murphy.

Doneraile-born Kathleen, who has been living in Ironmines for the more than four decades, has always had a keen interest in art and enjoyed painting as a hobby.

"As a child I was always sketching and drawing, However, at the time being artistic was not really encouraged and so I did not really take my art seriously until recently," said Kathleen.

Over the past seven-years she has been taking her hobby more seriously and now boasts an extensive body of colourful works in both acrylics and oils.

"I draw inspiration from the everyday views that catch my eye, be they while I am on holiday abroad or simply the views and vistas that I encounter at home in Cork. I enjoy exploring these through the medium of the canvas using different shades of colour to bring them to life," said Kathleen.

She said that over recent years family, relatives and friends had encouraged her to hold public exhibitions of her work. The first of these took place in Mallow library in the summer of 2017 with other exhibitions of her work taking place last year in Mallow, Fermoy and Mitchelstown libraries. Kathleen has also set up her own website at which contains images of her works, all of which are for sale.

"The exhibitions and the website were the realisation of a long-held ambition to put my work on public display and I am delighted with the feedback received through both," said Kathleen.

The latest exhibition of Kathleen's work in Mallow Library will be open to view from 9.30am - 5.30pm Tuesday to Saturday (7.30pm Thursday) until Wednesday, July 17.

The framed paintings on display be available to buy by contacting Kathleen on 086 075 0124 or by email at
