Feile cheoil and trad fest run together this weekend
It's a hectic weekend for Millstreet Comhalthas Ceolteiorí Eireann who are expanding their annual feile cheoil into the Millstreet Trad Fest.
The programme of events opens on Saturday, when the schedule sees music workshops with renowned musicians and singers in Millstreet Community School from 10am-1pm in fiddle, singing, box, concertina and tin whistle/flute categories.
That's followed later on Saturday evening with a free concert/album launch with Aidan McMahon, Mike Butler and Michael Landers in the Green Glens Coach House, the proceedings completed by a trad music session.
All are welcome to the concert in the intimate setting of The Coach House Bar within the Green Glens Arena. Artists Aidan McMahon (Fiddle), Mike Butler (Box) and Michael Landers (Guitar) promise to entertain with their mix of traditional tunes and folk and country songs.
The Ennis-based trio are using the opportunity to launch their album "Yield up the Night Time" to a Millstreet audience in a relaxed and enjoyable night. Following the concert, all promise to join in a seisiún with local and visiting musicians and the word is bring your instruments.
Sunday sees the annual Feile Cheoil in Millstreet Community School with a full and diverse programme underway at 11am. The hosting continues to grow in stature and amongst the diverse range of competitions are classes in Irish Traditional Music, Irish/English Singing, Irish Recitation and Set Dancing catering from under 6 to adult level.
Confined competitions operate from 11am with the open programme underway at 12 noon. The confined programme covers the Millstreet Community School catchment area, Millstreet parish Dromtariffe, Kilcorney, Carriganima, Hollymount and Rathcoole
