Drive-in movies come to Mallow racecourse

Bill Browne

Outdoor entertainment of a different kind will be coming to the Cork Racecourse in Mallow this weekend - offering move buffs of all ages the chance to interact with some greatest musical movies ever filmed.

Mallow's first ever Drive-in movie screen will be erected at the venue for the 'Caroke' special, that will see screenings of five classic movies projected onto a giant LED screen, allowing people to watch and sing along to the stellar line-up of films from the comfort of their own cars.

The celluloid extravaganza will get underway at 9.15pm on Friday evening with a screening of 1987 movie 'Dirty Dancing' starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.

Saturday will see a 'Frozen' sing-a-long for the little ones at 2.45pm, followed by a screenings of the multi-award winning 'A Star Is Born' starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper at 6pm and the Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' at 9pm.

Sunday will feature a 6pm screening of 'The Greatest Showman followed by 'A Start Is Born' at 9pm.

To add to the atmosphere there will also be American styled food favourites including burgers, hot dogs, pizza and doughnuts available to buy on both nights.

Ryan O'Neill of Retro Drive-In Movies said the selection features some of the greatest ever movie soundtracks

"These are the ultimate sing-a-long movies so get your singing voices ready, grab a friend and pretend nobody is watching," he said.
