A COMPANY that has been a dominant presence on the vibrant local wholesale food sector for more than a century has been unveiled as the 2023 SME Cork Company of the Year.
M&P O’Sullivan, a fourth-generation family run company founded in 1905, was honoured with the prestigious accolade at the recent Cork Chamber Company of the Year awards.
The award was in recognition of the company’s vision and significant growth trajectory, which has seen annual turnover increase by 20% over recent years, with the company on track to double turnover over the next five-years.
Innovation is a huge factor behind MP O’Sullivan’s ongoing success, with the company recently making a number of strategic new hires, introducing a new online ordering platform & mobile app and implementing a new warehouse management system.
They have also invested in multi-temperature warehousing that enabled them to launch a frozen and chill food offering, extending the range by approximately 1,000 product lines.
In recent years the business acquired Brennan’s Caterworld one of Cork’s oldest catering equipment companies, broadening their non-food and catering equipment category by a further 5,000 product lines.
They have also invested heavily in expanding their reach around the country.
Cork Chamber said that in addition M&P O’Sullivan had been recognised for “delivering the highest standard of customer service” through staff training and customer loyalty initiatives guided by the principle of Total Customer Experience, which the Chamber said, “differentiates them in a very competitive market”.
Community has been at the core of their business for the last 118-years and it has long associations with initiatives such as Cork On a Fork, Marymount Hospice Ball, the Irish Grocers Benevolent Fund, Cork Business Association, Carrigaline Lions Club, and the Carrigaline Youth Club Internship Program.
Accepting the award co-directors Eoin and Patrick O’Sullivan said the company prides itself on its customer service and in particular the unique relationship that its recently expanded 10-strong sales team has with customers.
“It is a great feeling to be recognised by the Cork business community and to be honoured for supporting local jobs, local suppliers and local communities in Cork for the last 11 decades,” they said.
“This award is not only for the O’Sullivan family but also for everyone who has helped build M&P O’Sullivan’s into the company that it is today,” they added.
