Record crowd for top duathlon

The annual Tinahely Tri-Club's duathlon took place last Sunday in beautiful conditions with a fast and exciting race unfolding around the beautiful countryside of south Wicklow.

Roundwood's Noel Kavanagh was the winner of the men's race in a course record time of 1:00:47 while Linda Kelly stormed home to win the women's race.

'Congratulations to all our competitors and I hope you all enjoyed it,' said race director Alan Byrne. 'The conditions allowed for a fast, exciting and competitive race. It was also great to see many taking part in their first duathlon, super stuff.

'Again, a sincere thank you to all our marshals, helpers, sponsors, Tinahely GAA Club, Railway Committee and First Responders for their support in the running of our event. I'd like to thank all of our sponsors, too many to name individually, but a special mention to Glanbia their huge support,' he said.

Congratulations to the following podium finishers: Men's race - 1st: Noel Kavanagh; 2nd: Colm Turner; 3rd: Ciaran Steed.

Women's race - 1st: Linda Kelly; 2nd: Rachel Staunton; 3rd: Louise Jackman.

Relay Winners: John Dempsey and John Kenny.

Male winner (over 40): PJ Dunne. Female winner (over 40): Karen Murdock. Male Winner (over 50): Laurence O'Toole. Female winner (over 50): Majella Rafferty.
