Jason rides to victory in Wexford

Cycling

South East Road Club member Jason O'Toole traveled south to compete in the County Wexford Championship Road Race last weekend.

The Rathdrum native took on the Model County's top A4s and came home with the top prize.

The race was run over a testing 43km circuit just south of Gorey. The event kicked off with a mass start and O'Toole had a plan, which was to tuck in behind the A1s, A2s and A3s while keeping a close eye on his nearest rivals in the A4 category and as the finish line loomed O'Toole lit up the afterburners to win from Aaon Dormer (Barrow Wheelers) in second place with Luke Goff (Slaney CC) taking the bronze.

SERC's Jay Earls competing in the A1 category had to settle for third place, Earls broke away early in the race, opening a gap of one minute but the chasing duo of Andy Maguire (Bioracer/DHL) and Richard Barry (St Finbars) worked together to reel in the Arklow man on the final lap.

SERC's up and coming star Connor Short came in second place in the under 16 category behind Eoghan Cooke from the Oanavarra cycling club, Tony Barnes and Ronan Short were also in action representing SERC on the night.

SERC's weekly club spin leaves the Fernhill plaza every Sunday at 9.30am.
