Eagle-eyed golfers land cars after holes-in-one
TWO golfers defied the odds in Greystones last weekend, winning a car each with their holes-in-one.
Sponsors of the Greystones Golf Club Pro Am Newcastle Garage Ltd will be giving a brand new Peugeot 208 each to club member Dermot Whiston and Woodbrook's Paul O'Farrell.
The garage had taken out 'Hole-in-One' insurance to cover the eventuality of one win, never mind two.
'We were in shock, and I think the insurance company is still in shock!' said garage owner Colin Watchorn, who congratulated the two players on their incredible win last Friday.
He said that the prizes will be delivered in the next week or so and he's looking forward to handing over the keys.
The cars are worth more than €30,000 for the pair, so it's good news that Colin is not out of pocket due to the big win.
The prize was offered for achieving the feat on the notoriously difficult 16th hole on the Greystones course.
'Reports by the official representative who was assigned to watch the green ... all day ... suggested that there was very nearly a third hole in one,' said club member Kevin Markham on his blog.
'The odds of two holes in one on the same hole are something like 17 million to one.'
He said that the 16th is the second toughest par three at Greystones.
