Wicklow County Fleadh approaches
Musicians, singers and dancers from around the county will flock to Aughrim this weekend for the biggest event in the local Comhaltas calendar - the Wicklow County Fleadh.
Host group Anne Devlin Comhaltas Ceoltóiri Éireann (CCE) is busy making the final preparations before welcoming scores of talented performers to Sacred Heart NS on Saturday, May 11, for a full day of competition.
Participants from all the CCE branches across the county will compete in various competitions in solo, duets, trios and groups playing a wide range of instruments. Competitions will begin at 10 a.m. and take place across eight rooms at the school.
Anne Devlin CCE Aughrim was founded in 1959. It was the second branch to be formed in the county and was named after the patriot Anne Devlin, who was in Cronebeg, Aughrim.
The branch has hosted many Fleadhanna beginning with the first ever county fleadh held back in 1962.
It seeks to give access to traditional music lessons to as many child and adult pupils as possible, with classes held every Friday night from September to May with monthly sessions.
