Welly throwing at high summer garden party

Mary Fogarty

Visitors to Killruddery got to hear the spectacular Honeydews last Sunday afternoon, before taking part in traditional games.

This was the 'High Summer Fling', with the stunning close harmony in vintage style one of the main attractions of the day.

The event also included the egg-and-spoon, sack race and the classic wheelbarrow race, and the prize of a golden welly for throwing a Wellington boot.

The day also included face-painting, food and refreshments, and delicious scoops of ice-cream.

The more energetic participants got to continue orienteering the Little Sugarloaf with Killruddery's adventure partners Alive Outside.

Also on Sunday afternoon, there was a Red Squirrel treasure hunt through the gardens, with clever clues and tricky tasks to complete.

Another outdoor event is to come at Killruddery, at the end of a packed summer programme, with 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' to be staged in the grounds on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the performance are €17 for an adult, €14 for students and OAPS, and €7 for children and available at Killruddery.ie.
