Three hundred take part in Green Ribbon event at Avondale Forest Park
Over 300 people visited Avondale Forest Park on Sunday for a bit of rest, recuperation and a positive mental health boost.
The Rathdrum venue was playing host to the Green Ribbon 'Let's Talk and Walk' event, which was organised by Coillte in association with See Change, the IFA, and Mental Health Ireland.
Just as the pink ribbon became a symbol for breast cancer awareness, the green ribbon has been established as the international symbol for mental health awareness and has been introduced to Ireland by See Change. The aim of the Green Ribbon campaign is to make the month of May synonymous with promoting open conversation about mental health and challenging the stigma of mental health issues.
The benefits to mental health brought by both exercise and contact with nature are well known and the aim of the walks are to encourage people to get outdoors into natural environment to improve mental wellness.
The aim of last Sunday's event was to was to further interest in walking and to bring to the fore the more social element of this - talking - so that the two can be enjoyed together.
