'Superstar' opens tonight

Auditions took place in September and now the day the cast of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' have been waiting for has finally arrived.

The Sheevawn Musical Theatre Group production opens tonight at the Mermaid and will run until Saturday. Each show is on at 8pm nightly for the four-night run.

Veteran of musical theatre Siobhan Gallagher is the director, with musical direction by John Morris and choreography by Yvonne Prendergast.

Based on the last days of Jesus of Nazareth's life, this powerful political commentary sees Jesus, represented by a homeless wanderer who preaches tolerance and kindness, reach the stature of Superstar with the populace, only to be betrayed and crucified by the very people who claimed to love him.

Starring Sean McMahon as Jesus and Chris Currid as Judas. Roisin Walsh plays Mary Magdalene with Ciaran Mooney as Pilate and Conor Cronin as Herod as well as a large cast of singers and dancers.
