Kilmacanogue woman Vourneen Collins invited her fellow Soroptimists to her home last Saturday afternoon for their summer garden party.

This event celebrates the end of the summer and is an opportunity for new members to get to know existing members.

Mrs Collins said that around 20 people attended the social gathering. Everyone brought some food and Mrs Collins said that the offerings were 'superb'.

She said that the garden party was a chance to catch up, as the group doesn't hold meetings in July or August.

The weather wasn't conducive to holding the event outdoors, so the 'garden party' was relocated to the conservatory.

'We had a lovely time,' said Mrs Collins. Her dogs Elsa and Lottie were delighted to be brought in to say hello at the end of the event when there were still a few visitors present. She told rescue-dog Lottie's story, the beautiful dog sadly having been abandoned at Bray Vet as a pup seven years ago. 'They just came in and left her on the counter,' said Mrs Collins.

Bray and District Soroptimists are looking forward to a fundraising lunch taking place in Bray in November.
