A pontoon has been installed on the North Pier of Bray Harbour which will be of benefit boat and other water users.

The amenity, which was co-funded by the Office of Public Works and Wicklow County Council, consists of a heavy duty floating pontoon with access gangway.

Access for water users - particularly those with disabilities and senior enthusiasts - will be made much easier with this pontoon.

Cllr Pat Vance, cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, said this further investment in amenities in Bray District shows the commitment of Wicklow County Council to continue to develop the harbour as a tourist haven.

'This new facility is a welcome addition in the harbour and is a valuable asset for boaters in North Wicklow,' he said.

The Bray Harbour Joint Development Committee has welcomed the installation of the new pontoon, which replaces landing steps lost during the river Dargle flood protection Scheme.

Tony Foran of Bray Harbour Mooring Holders Association said that it was 'a very important facility for boarding and disembarking boats'.

'To make it fully accessible for all users, it is essential that boats using the pontoon are attended at all times,' he said.
