Moyles brings his 'No Fry' message to Joint Oireachtas Committees
Greystones man Philip Moyles of the 'No Fry' initiative spoke to the Joint Oireachtas Committees on Children and Youth Affairs last week.
The 'No Fry' campaign lead to the prohibition of new fast food restaurants near schools in the County Wicklow Development Plan.
Also speaking at the Oireachtas were representatives of the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute, as well as a representative of the School of Education at Open University.
Mr Moyles made a three-minute opening statement and answered questions.
Committee members were very complimentary of what the campaign had achieved in Wicklow.
Mr Moyles said that a similar zone needs to be implemented around schools across the country and that they had done a lot of the hard work in getting the objective, RT17 adopted. 'I am hopeful that the committee will make a recommendation that the No Fry Zone should be implemented around schools across the country. It would be another positive step forward for us,' he said.
