A scale model of the forthcoming Florentine Centre is available to view at the civic offices of Bray Municipal District.

The model shows what the shopping centre area will look like upon completion. The development will include a number of retail units and a cinema.

Developers and officials at Wicklow County Council hope that the centre will be open by December 2019.

The council recently agreed to the disposal of the site to Navybrook Ltd, with the council to retain ownership until the development is done. Liquidated damages are also part of the deal should the construction works fall behind schedule. It is hoped the centre will be open by December 2019.

The project first went out to tender in 1994 only to be beset with a series of difficulties, including the economic downfall when Ballymore were supposed to develop the site.

A lengthy bidding process to select a contractor for the site included evidence on ability to get finance, to secure tenants and to manage the centre afterwards.

Factors included cost, how fast they will complete the project, finish, drainage, plans for prospective tenants and marketing and management of the site.
