Guidance counsellor and special education teacher in St. David's school, Greystones, Wyn McCormak has released a newly revised edition of her book, Lost For Words - a practical guide for parents and teachers to dyslexia at second-level.

It was the first book published in Ireland which dealt with dyslexia in the Irish education system and written with the main aim of helping parents of students with dyslexia.

The book includes information on topics such as choosing a second level school, subject choice and the best way of approaching homework.

While written for the parents of students with dyslexia, much of the content is both relevant and beneficial to parents of children with other learning difficulties such as dyspraxia or ADD. This new edition includes new legislation such as the Education Act and the Education of Persons with Special Educational Needs Act, as well as new agencies such as the Special Education Support Service and the National Council for Special Education.

Also included are new publications from the Department of Education such as an Understanding Dyslexia CD/DVD and the Post Primary Guidelines on Inclusion at second-level.

There is a specific chapter which is devoted to outstanding concerns such as equality of access to schools, the explanatory note on the statement of results in state examinations and difficulties about the exemption from Irish that can prove a serious problem.
