Building 'an ideal facility' for the community

Councillor Jennifer Whitmore is urging Wicklow County Council to acquire Trudder House as a community facility for the Newtownmountkennedy area.

The property has been lying idle for the past five years since Newcastle Hospital last occupied it.

Cllr Whitmore has been in contact with the Estates Section of the HSE, who confirmed that Trudder House can be transferred at a cost to Wicklow County Council.

'If the Council aren't interested then the HSE will sell it on the open market to the highest bidder and it will be lost to the community. Trudder House poses endless opportunities for the fastest growing village in Ireland and could be used as a dedicated scouts den, youth club, community meeting rooms or community clinics, amongst other things. It also comes with large grounds once used as a soccer pitch,' said Cllr Whitmore.

She has already copied the HSE correspondence to the six councillors on the Wicklow Municipal District and the six councillors on the Greystones Municipal District representing the Killadreenan area of Newtownmountkennedy. A number of the councillors have contacted her in support of the move.

Cllr Whitmore has also met with Wicklow County Council Chief Executive Frank Curran ad discussed the possible acquisition of Trudder House as community facility.

'It's a no brainer that Trudder House would be perfect for one of the fastest growing villages in Ireland with a burgeoning young population,' said Cllr Whitmore.
