Rukky Atiyota was given a warm welcome home from the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi as he and his fellow Blue Dolphin Aisling Beacom were guests of honour at a special event in Wicklow town on Friday.

Aisling and Rukky were picked up from Dublin Airport in the afternoon by bus before meeting with a Garda escort as they made their way through Wicklow town. They were cheered on by the public, who had lined the streets as they made their way to the Bridge Tavern.

Eighteen-year-old Rukky, who lives in Delgany, represented his country at basketball at the world games while talented swimmer Aisling managed to bag herself a gold medal and a bronze.
