BIFE's Aisling in international make-up final
BIFE student Aisling Dowling is poised to enter a significant international final in London next month.
This comes as the college's arts festival gets underway. The play 'Three Sisters' will be performed tonight in Mermaid Arts Centre for the second time.
Aisling entered the Jane Iredale make up competition after hearing about it through a friend at Bray Institute of Further Education.
She submitted her work and was announced as a finalist last week.
Her model and classmate Danielle Heatley, whose blue hair partly inspired the look, will travel with her.
It took Aisling three hours to achieve her creation and her intention is to make the viewer question if her creation is an earthly being or from somewhere beyond. She will be one of six finalists who will enjoy a visit to the flagship London head office from April 3 to 5 for bespoke advanced training and to recreate their look at a live final.
The winning student will receive a make-up kit worth £1000 to kick start their career, and the winning college will receive £1000 of jane iredale mineral cosmetic products to use as a training tool. The theme for this year's competition is 'Animals on Earth and Beyond'. Aisling, who is from Naas, is the only Irish representative in the final. She has developed her flair while attending the Fashion, Theatre and Media Makeup and Special Effects course at Bray Institute under the guidance of tutor Maeve McCarthy.
This group of students have also been creating special effects looks for short movies shot by BIFE TV and Film students and have also collaborated with the Performing Arts group for theatre productions and with the Dance Performance group for an upcoming production in the Mermaid Theatre as part of the BIFE Arts Festival. The festival will include performances in Mermaid across Performing Arts, Music, TV and Film, and Dance.
On Thursday, March 16, it's 'BIFE Music Goes Live'. BIFE TV & Film presents Shortcuts at Mermaid on Tuesday, March 21.
The dance students present 'Always Dancing' on Thursday and Friday, March 23 and 24.
