The mother of abuse victim Fiona Doyle has died, seven months after she was questioned by gardai regarding her alleged knowledge of Patrick O'Brien's abuse of his daughter. Oldcourt resident Breda O'Brien died during Monday night.
Her husband Patrick O'Brien pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to 16 charges of raping and indecently assaulting her at Mackintosh Park, Pottery Road, Dun Laoghaire, from 1973 to 1982. His original sentence of 12 years with nine suspended was tripled on appeal.
'I was to get my answer this week from the DPP on whether or not she was to be charged. The fact she didn't try to make her peace with me proves she still thought she did nothing wrong,' said Fiona on social media yesterday morning.
'My mother died, surrounded by family. She was loved and protected by them, more than I ever was. I am just so sad it was like this.'
