Four local voluntary organisations were presented with cheques totalling €12,000 by Bray Lions Club at a reception in the Esplanade Hotel Bray on Tuesday, February 26. The presentations were from funds raised at the 2019 Bray Lions Club Charity Sea Swim on New Year's Day and the recipient charities are Wicklow Rapid Response (WWRR), Bray Area Rough Sleepers Support (BARSS), Bray Women's Refuge and Bray Lions Senior Citizens'/Carers' Fund.

Making the presentations, Karl O'Broin, president of Bray Lions Club said that this year's recipients represented four outstanding causes and added to the list of more than more than 40 local charities which have been supported by the Sea Swim over its 37 years.

The total funds raised by the Bray Lions New Year's Day Sea Swim now exceed €354,000.

Hundreds of people take the plunge on New Year's Day each year.

President Karl thanked more than 200 swimmers who participated this year as well as the many sponsors, support services and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. He also thanked the management and staff of the Esplanade Hotel hosted the 2019 Sea Swim.
