News from the bridge clubs
At East Coast Bridge Club last Thursday evening, Kathleen Moughty and Marie Callanan came first in North/South.
Ethna Grouthuis and Brian Driver were second, with Patsy Gordon and Sylvia Kelly third. In East/West, Gay Cunningham and George McGarry were first, John Sheehan and Dermot Kane second, and Brenda Kane and Eileen Purdy third.
Thursday night was a draw night for partners which makes play a little more difficult as you are not playing with your regular partner but it is a very sociable night. On the North/South side the winners were Pat Kerr and Birdie Andrews. In second were Maria Kerr and Mary Flynn. Third went to Anthea Goodbody and Nora Cummins (novice). On the East/West side the winners were Phyl Lalor and Stasia Hagan. Second were Angela Davitt and Gertie Hallihan and in third Noeleen Redmond and Catherine Black. Five novice players braved the draw with one coming in third place and two others being placed fourth.
Tony Corcoran and Neil O'Connor came first in North/South last week at Bray Harbour Bridge Club. Claire Cassoni and Maire Kerr were second, with Bob Barry and Michael Gordon third. In East/West Geraldine Byrne and Maura O'Brien came first, Mary and Stephen Hogg second, and Raymond Lally and Marie Callanan third. The club meets on Wednesday evenings at the sailing club.
On Friday, April 7, Monica Brady and Seamus Kennedy were the winners for North/South. Marian Davis and Teresa Leahy were second and third place went to Catherine McGillycuddy and Nancy O'Brien. Playing their cards right for East/West were Paddy O'Brien and John Loscher. Second place went to Margaret Bolger and Noeleen Redmond and finishing third were Phil Kenna and Liz Belton.
