Maria Creavin celebrated her 80th birthday last Friday night in the Parkview in Newtownmountkennedy with her family, friends and fellow members of the dancing club in Greystones.

The sprightly grandmother of 10 was barely off the dance floor for the night, with music provided by the wonderful Jimmy Hogan and Lar.

The Newcastle woman goes dancing on Sunday nights in Greystones Rugby Club, and travels all over to go to events and gatherings around the country.

The fact that the gran is so youthful is a real testament to the health and well-being benefits of dancing.

Her daughter Bridget gave a speech, thanking everyone for coming and praising her mother.

The crowd heard that Maria had just learned to drive in recent years, and had a new-found sense of freedom couple with a love of dancing.

The party was most enjoyable and included a demonstration of professional ballroom dancing.
