Star Christmas Festival - Some of our local residents as we know, attend Powerscourt School and church and they have a big day coming up this Saturday.
A Craft and Foods Stalls will take place between midday and 6 p.m. on the 30th with Christmas Trees, Elves Workshop, Mince Pies and Mulled Wine plus numerous fun and games. At 4.30 p.m., follow Mary, Joseph and Donkey on a journey from St Mary's Church and join them through the village of Enniskerry as they knock on the Inns and make their way up the hill towards to a live crib at Powerscourt Church. It all sounds magical so please put it in your Diaries.
RNLI coffee morning
A fundraising coffee morning will be held in the Kingfisher Kitchen in Enniskerry on Friday, November 29, from 10 a.m. to midday in aid of the Lifeboats. There will also be a raffle and RNLI Christmas cards on sale. Your support would be gratefully received.
Plucks golf outing
Another great golfing year for the members of Plucks Golf Society draws to a close on Saturday (December 7) with the 'Turkey Shoot'. This was due to take place in Powerscourt last Saturday but the weather put an end to that and it is now rescheduled for December. Some members could not play last Saturday but possibly available for the seventh so get your name down by this Sunday when the draw will take place for tee times.
No action on the playing fields last weekend but some very important presentations took place in the Parkview on Saturday as the junior teams attended for their end of season presentations. The parents have asked me to thank all the coaches for their dedication and efforts over 2019.
It was a wonderful year indeed for the Kilmacanogue History Society and it is hard to believe that the final lecture of 2019 will take place on Tuesday, December 3, in the Glenview Hotel at 8 p.m. The speaker will be Dr Breda Cunningham and her talk will be 'The Irish Pub, A social and Cultural History'.
Breda will focus on the social role of the public house in Irish society. A role which, over time has determined our drinking habits and practices. Breda Cunningham studied for her PhD in Maynooth University. Her research concentrated on the Cultural, Economic and Political aspects of Social Drinking in Ireland 2000 - 2005.
This will round up the season lecture series for the current year but the programme for 2020 is almost complete and hopefully ready for distribution on December 3 the committee are looking forward to seeing all their members and friends on the night and a reminder that these lectures are open to everyone so please come along on the night.
Glens Christmas draw
The annual Glencormac United Christmas Draw will take place on Saturday, December 7, in Plucks. First Prize is €2,000, second is €1,000 and third is €500 with seven prizes of €100 on offer and Tickets are priced at €20. Thankfully, there is a huge response again this year which the club is so grateful for, please get yours before the night to avoid disappointment.
