Happy 60th birthday to Blacker
THERE WERE great celebrations in the Glencormac Inn last Saturday night when Gerry Blackbyrne celebrated his 60th birthday.
His wife Joan had organised this surprise gathering and managed to keep quiet about it, which Gerry joked was some feat for "Our Joan" to stay quiet for a sustained period.
You only have to mention the word 'party' and you can be sure the Blackbyrne and Philips families will be there with many of the latter making the journey over from England to help celebrate the occasion.
Of course there was room for neighbours, work colleagues and many friends, along with former teammates, one of which was the legendary 'Skinny Gammell', who danced the night away and certainly is moving a lot better now than he ever did on the football field.
Gerry is a fantastic community member and great supporter of all fundraisers. He played both soccer for Glencormac and Gaelic football for Kilmacanogue for many years and when it was time to hang up the boots; he managed the soccer team and served as chairman of the Gaa team.
We would like to wish Gerry a very happy birthday but a special wish comes from all the family and of course daughter Cathy for "her daddy"!
Best wishes for the next 60, "Blacker".
