Greystones and district community noticeboard

A car boot sale will take place at St David's school in Greystones on Sunday, April 21.

The car boot at St David's has been running for 25 years and is always enjoyed by buyers and sellers alike. It runs the first and third Sunday of the month over the summer, with the last sale on September 1. The sale is one of St David's main fundraisers and all proceeds go directly to the school.

Children's magic show

A children's comedy magic and illusion show with Joe Daly will take place at Whale Theatre in Greystones on Monday, April 22, at 1 p.m. and 3.30 p.m. Joe presents weekday magic show 'abraKI.Dabra' on RTÉ Jr, and has hosted the RTÉ1 Christmas show 'The Greatest Show That Never Was'.

The show is suitable for children aged four to 12, and includes magic, illusion, comedy and fun.

Joe's show completely reinvents children's entertainment, so much show that the adults will enjoy it as much as the kids.

Tables will fly, newspapers torn up and restored, cola poured over a volunteers head and Joe himself will float on air... that's just for starters.

Active Retirement

Greystones Active Retirement Association will pay a visit to the National Concert Hall on Wednesday, April 10, for Rathgar and Rathmines Musical Society's 'The Sound of Musicals'.

The show is at 8 p.m., with the bus leaving the Holy Rosary at 6.30 p.m.

Tickets are €45, to include the bus and show.

The monthly coffee morning takes place on Friday, April 26, at Kilian House Family Centre at 10.30 a.m.

On May 8 there will be a trip to Altamont Gardens and Rathwood, and on May 30 a trip to Bloom in Phoenix Park.

There will be an autumn holiday to Celtic Ross Hotel, Roscarbery, County Cork, on Sunday, September 22, for four nights.

The cost is €315 per person sharing with a single supplement of €15 per night, and a booking deposit of €50.

That includes bed, breakfast, evening meals, trips and entertainment on two nights.

Aqua aerobics takes place on Mondays at Shoreline from midday to 1 p.m. with bowls on Tuesdays at Kilian House at 10.30 a.m. Bingo also takes place on Tuesdays at Kilian House, at 2.30 p.m.

Keep Fit is on Mondays at Kilian House from 1 p.m. to 1.45 p.m. and art, also at Kilian House, on Mondays at 2.30 p.m.

Men's Shed

Men's Shed Greystones is open Wednesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. and welcomes new members.

An enhancement grant from Wicklow County Council has enabled them to achieve new set goals and to purchase new logistics.

They are aiming to create a social club to introduce their new project and products.

Country market

North Wicklow Country Market will take place each Saturday morning at Newcastle Community Centre.

The market takes place from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Weekly social dancing

There is social dancing to live music every Sunday night in Greystones.

The event starts each week at 8.30 p.m. in the rugby club.

Memory Lane music

'Memory Lane Music' takes place each Friday morning at St Patrick's Church Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A family carers support group meets every third Friday of the month, also at St Patrick's, from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a facilitator led, peer-to-peer support group.

Bray Greystones badminton club welcomes new players every Thursday night at 8 p.m. in BIFE Novara Road Bray.

Beginners and back to badminton players welcome.

The choir sings at 6 p.m. Mass in the Holy Rosary Church on the first and third Saturday of the month.

Holy Rosary parish social, hobby and craft afternoon takes place on the first Sunday of each month.

The event will take place at Kilian House Family Centre from 3 p.m. till 6 p.m. each month.

Language groups

A German conversation group meets each week in Greystones.

The group meets at the library on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m.

A French conversational group meets on Thursday mornings, also at the library, at 11 a.m.

Policing clinic in Kilcoole

Kilcoole policing clinic takes place each Wednesday evening at Kilcoole Community Centre, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Garda Corbett and/or Garda Thompson will be in attendance.

Drop in for crime prevention advice, get a form stamped, and most other garda station services.

Bees and bee keeping

There will be a talk in Greystones Library on Tuesday, April 23, on 'Bees and Bee keeping'.

The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mary Montaut will give an introductory talk for those interested in starting bee keeping.

The talk is also for those who are generally interested in nature, wildlife and gardening.

Exercise for over-50s

Exercise programmes for the over-50s take place each Wednesday at Shoreline Leisure at 12.30 p.m.

The sessions help with flexibility, strength, confidence, balance, coordination and mobility.

Admission is €5 per session and all are welcome.

Tai chi for arthritis

A six-session tai chi for arthritis course will start on Tuesday, April 23, at St Patrick's Parish Centre.

The classes take place at 2.45 p.m. and the cost is €60.

These classes are for people aged 50 and older.

It is believed that this programme can improve strength and balance, helping to reduce pain from arthritis.

Participants can relax and enjoy the slow, smooth, continuous movements of sun style tai chi.

Delgany's big spring clean

Delgany Tidy Towns spring clean will take place on Saturday and Sunday, April 13, and 14.

Those interested in helping out are asked to meet at the Wicklow Arms on the Saturday at 10.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m., and on the Sunday at 10.30 a.m.

There will be an eco water bottle for each child who picks up a bag of litter.

There will also be a barbecue at the Horse and Hound on the Sunday at 1.30 p.m. to thank volunteers.

Bags and litter pickers will be provided. Gardening tools such as gloves, brushes, spades and trowels can be brought along.

It is hoped there will be a big show of support for this event.

Soup and sandwiches

Soup and sandwiches will be served at Kilian House Family Centre, at the Holy Rosary, on Wednesday, April 24.

The lunch will be served from 12.15 p.m. to 2 p.m. and will include tea or coffee and cake.

A suggested donation of €5 will go to local charities. All welcome to attend.
