Greystones and District Community Noticeboard

Art group - Gill Mac, local artist and experienced community art tutor, will be facilitating a drawing and acrylic painting art group for beginners and improvers. All materials are provided except canvases and boards.

Sessions are at Killian House family centre on Wednesdays from 10.15 a.m. to 12.45 p.m., from February 13 till May 15. There will b no class on the last Wednesday of every month, or on May 1. The fee for 10 weeks is €180. Contact Gill at 087 2525216.

Give us a song

An event for the Caroline Foundation's 'Give Us a Song' campaign will take place at the Hot Spot Music Club on Sunday, February 3, at 4 p.m.

Attendees can listen or sing a song, and make a donation to the Caroline Foundation.

The foundation honours the memory of Greystones native Caroline Dwyer Hickey, who died after a long battle with cancer. The foundation supports the work of Professor John Crown, and the cancer clinical research trust.

Drama in golf club

This year's offering from Delgany Golf Club Drama Group is 'Nobody's Talking to Me' by Tommy Marren.

The Irish comedy is set in rural Ireland, 1968. Mattie and Maggie are celebrating their anniversary, having not spoken to each other for 10 years.

The play will take place from Wednesday, February 13, to Saturday, February 16, and from Wednesday, February 20, to Saturday, February 23. Tickets are available from Chris Ball 087 2570758 at €15.

Men's Shed

Greystones Men's Shed is seeking new members. They open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will have new programmes starting this year. After being closed for Christmas, the shed reopens today (Wednesday, January 9).

Badminton

Bray Greystones badminton club welcomes new players every Thursday night at eight o'clock in BIFE Novara Road Bray.

Beginners and back to badminton players welcome.

Family badminton takes place every Sunday from 4 p.m. till 6 p.m. Adults and children welcome.

Active Retirement

Aqua aerobics takes place on Mondays at Shoreline from midday to 1 p.m., with bowls on Tuesdays at Kilian House at 10.30 a.m. Bingo also takes place on Tuesdays at Kilian House, at 2.30 p.m.

Keep Fit is on Mondays at Kilian House from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and art, also at Kilian House, on Mondays at 2.30 p.m.

Dementia Support

'Memory Lane Music' takes place each Friday morning at St Patrick's Church Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A family carers support group meets every third Friday of the month, also at St Patrick's, from 11.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a facilitator led, peer-to-peer support group.

Storytime at the library

The popular children's storytime takes place at 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday mornings at Greystones Library.

The session is suitable for babies up to children aged six years.

No booking is required for the event.

Holy Rosary choir

The choir sings at 6 p.m. Mass in the Holy Rosary Church on the first and third Saturday of the month.

Holy Rosary Parish social

Holy Rosary parish social, hobby and craft afternoon takes place on the first Sunday of each month.

The event will take place at Kilian House Family Centre from 3 p.m. till 6 p.m. each month.

Refreshments are available at €1.50.

The event is for people aged 18 and older.

Language groups

A German conversation group meets each week in Greystones.

The group meets at the library on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m.

A French conversational group meets on Thursday mornings, also at the library, at 11 a.m.

Weekly policing clinic

Kilcoole policing clinic takes place each Wednesday evening at Kilcoole Community Centre, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Garda Corbet and/or Garda Thompson will be in attendance.

Drop in for crime prevention advice, get a form stamped, and most other garda station services.

Exercise for over-50s

Exercise programmes for the over-50s take place each Wednesday at Shoreline Leisure at 12.30 p.m.

The sessions help with flexibility, strength, confidence, balance, coordination and mobility.

Admission is €5 per session and all are welcome.

Men's evening

Greystones Cancer Support's Men's Evening will take place at the centre on Wednesday, January 30, at 8 p.m.

This evening is for men who have had cancer or whose family or friends have had cancer.

Greystones Scouts are now recruiting new leaders for first Wicklow, second Dublin, St Kilian's Scout Group.

St Patrick's Day parade

Plans are under way for this year's St Patrick's Day parade in Greystones.

Application forms and details have been sent to local groups and organisations.

Anyone, who needs a form can contact the district council at 01 2876694 or greystonesMD@wicklowcoco.ie.

A wide range of awards will be made in various categories and the usual best window display award will also be made.

There is no need for business to enter, they will be considered if the window is decorated.

Applications must be returned by February 22.

The cost is €20 for clubs and organisations and €40 commercial.

Soup and sandwiches

Soup and sandwiches will be served at Kilian House Family Centre on Wednesday, January 30, from 12.15 p.m. till 2 p.m., then on Tuesday, February 5, at the Presbyterian Hall on Trafalgar Road from 12.30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The events include home-made soup and sandwiches followed by tea or coffee and cake.

Diners are asked for a suggested donation of €5 to go to local charities. All welcome.

Wine tasting

There will be wine tasting with La Touche Wines at Greystones Ridge Angling club on Thursday, January 31.

Paul Savage of Classic Drinks will lead a session on tasting north vs south American wines.

Mindfulness

A family mindfulness gathering will take place at Greystones Library on Saturday, February 2, at 11 a.m.

The gathering will be taught by a certified youth mindfulness and kids yoga teacher.

No experience is needed and the session is suitable for children aged three and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

There will be guided meditation, breath awareness, mindful activities and movement. Call 01 2873548 to book.

Kíla

Kíla will perform at the Hot Spot Music Club on Saturday, January 2, at 8 p.m.

Once again, Greystones has the opportunity to hear this first class group.

Their new album, Alive, is based on their tours of festivals and venues in Ireland.

Thursday Club

Delgany Thursday Club will meet at the Old Schoolhouse on Thursday, February 7, for a talk about the benefits of guide and assistance dogs. The talk will be given by Gillian Willis and Rev Harry Lwe. Afternoon tea will follow. Donations to dog charities will be welcome.
