Gardaí, civil defence, fire fighters and more at community event

Members of the emergency services from across County Wicklow attended the grounds of Eire Óg last Sunday, for an emergency services day for the community.

The Murray family is among those to have made a huge contribution to the safety of the people of their community, with David, Darren, Barry and Brian serving variously in the Coast Guard, Army and Fire Service.

The day included a host of displays and demonstrations, by Greystones First Responders, Wicklow Fire Service, the Coast Guard Rescue 116 helicopter, garda elite helicopter, Civil Defence, and the Army.

There was a parade by the 'Little Blue Heroes' of An Garda Síochána, to huge rounds of applause from the many visitors to the event.

Little Blue Heroes are seriously ill children who have become honorary gardai, The foundation also supports ill children and their families.

The day featured a fascinating variety of vehicles, as well as the presence of non-human members of the emergency services, including dogs and horses.

There was a fantastic atmosphere on the day, during which visitors expressed their appreciation to those who work so hard to protect the community.
