Fr Jim Sharkey died peacefully in the early hours of June 24, in the presence of his family and of the staff of the care unit of St Patrick's Missionary Society in Kiltegan.
Fr Jim was born in Monasteraden, Co Sligo, in 1934. He joined St Patrick's Missionary Society in September 1952 and was ordained on May 23, 1959.

Jim left Nigeria in June 2013 and retired to Kiltegan. His health deteriorated over the last couple of years.
He is predeceased by his sisters Mary (Culkin) and Ethna (Dunne) and by his brother John Joe.
Fr Jim is sadly missed by his brother Tom (Dublin), by his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, his relatives, friends and by his Society family.
His reposing took place at St Patrick's, Kiltegan, with removal to St. Patrick's Chapel at 5.30pm. His funeral Mass was held in St Patrick's, Kiltegan followed by burial in the Society Cemetery.
