Festina Lente held their Equestrian Training Programme open day recently at the Old Connaught Avenue centre.

Prospective students were invited to Festina Lente to see what the three-year programme is all about.

The QQI Level 4 award in horsemanship training course is part academic and part practical.

The course is funded by Solas and provides supports to students who have learning difficulties or learning disabilities.

The learner would develop knowledge in a broad range of equine skills to work in a variety of equine sectors.

Some of the skills they will learn on the programme include handling the horses in a safe way; daily stable and yard tasks; caring for and feeding of horses; how horses behave and why; how to work as part of a team and communicate with others, and how to ride competently.

The modules include stable and yard routine; workplace safety, communications and work experience.

There is also an opportunity to receive a British Horse Society qualification if you wish to do so. The programme team will help you to decide what you want to do when you finish your training.
