Country and western fever at the Moneystown Barn Dance

Moneystown Community Centre held the hoedown of all hoedowns Centre on Saturday night, featuring plenty of live music, dancing and a barbecue.

The Midsummer Barn Dance received huge levels of support, with hundreds of people arriving decked out in Stetson hats, plaid shirts and cowboy boots.

The night had a distinct 'country and western' vibe, with a portable bucking bronco proving a major attraction.

Mary Cullen was the winner of two tickets for the event after people were asked to like, share and tag three friends on Facebook in order for them to be in with a chance.

The Whole Hog band and Paul Molloy provided the music to ensure the dance floor was packed for the night. Revellers could also indulge in a fully licensed bar.

Marquees were erected at the back of the community centre and hosed the BBQ, while local businesses showed their generosity by donating gifts and prizes for a bumper raffle.

The night finished appropriately with a DJ Scott spinning some 'country' favourites, both old and new.

The committee behind the barn dance will be taking a break next year but expect to see them make a return some time in 2021, maybe with something just a little different.
