'Biking it for Jade'

Mary Fogarty

Over 150 motorbikes, and 20 vintage cars started their engines last Sunday for 'Biking it for Jade'.

The charity bike run was held by North Wicklow Motorcycle Enthusiasts, joined by the ICA Bike Run and the Ali Byrne Memorial Run as well as the Garden of Ireland Vintage Car Club. They combined their experience to organise one amazing run for Jade.

The day included a raffle with loads of amazing prizes donated from the community. The vehicles set off from Coffee Delights on the Southern Cross at midday on Sunday for a jaunt around the county.

Jade (23) from Greystones is currently fighting incurable stage IV leiomyosarcoma cancer. Leiomyosarcoma is an extremely rare cancer and due to its unpredictable nature, there is very little known about it and no cure.

Jade plans to challenge this by seeking treatment abroad and fighting back in the hopes that, although it may not be curable, it can be treated and a comfortable standard of living maintained for as long as possible.

She and her family are currently seeking second opinions abroad.

The aim of the treatment plan, although undecided yet, is to keep Jade as well as possible for as long as possible.
