GAA club notes

Huge thanks to the late Seán McShane's two sons John and Paul, who hosting yet another fabulous annual fundraiser in Druids Glen on June 2 money raised were in aid of the club and Pieta House. A sun shone and a great day of golf was had by all, next year is the 10th anniversary of the Seán McShane memorial and it promises to be a big one. Thanks for Dominic Leech, Druids Glen, all our sponsors and all those involved in making it such a memorable event.

Newtown GAA extend deepest sympathies to parents, children and family of Thomas (OXO) Doyle, who sadly passed away on Saturday last. May Thomas rest in peace.

The Nursery is running every Saturday morning at 11.30 and each week the children have super fun, so come along and join in. A massive thanks to Adrian Dunne Pharmacy and Denise, who got in touch to see how they could help out. Denise couldn't have began more helpful and arranged great new T-shirts for all the kids.

The under-11s fell to a narrow 2-7 to 2-5 in Barndarrig on Wednesday evening. Newtown had the advantage of a decent breeze in the first half but only went in level 1-2 each at half time, setting a difficult task for the second half. They played most of their best football into the wind in the second half with some hard earned well worked scores but the home side picked off a few good long range points of their own to edge the game. Overall another good competitive game for the 11s between two evenly matched teams. Team: Luke Turley, Sam Fenelon, Noah Flannery, Aaron Garrett, Dylan Dunleavy, Cathal o Toole, Pat Carey, Aidan Heffernan, Mike Synnott, Ryan McDonald, Darren Fisher, John Turley, Oisin Duffy.

Can all parents/players make sure membership is paid up over the coming weeks. Nursery and Go Games 7s to 9s €20;Juvenile under-11 to under-17s €40;Adult non-working €50; Adult working €75; Non-playing membership €50. As you can see these are very moderate fees for a full year. You can pay these in the post office.

There was no winner of last week's lotto jackpot of €2,400, numbers drawn were 10, 13, 24 and 26, one person won €200 by matching three numbers. Please buy a ticket to help support the club.

Newtown Juniors FC

Plenty of action last weekend where some of our teams were involved in some very close games. Our under-eights hosted St Anthony's Yellow and both teams played out an exciting series of games. Among the players who starred were Noah Sinnott-Elliott and Kaitlyn Mullen.

Our under-nines drew away to St Anthony's Green where Rofry O'Gorman, Aaron Nolan, David McCormack and Bobby Spillane were among the star players.

Our 10's were in action against St Anthony's aka Yellow team where they were edged out on a 3-2 scoreline. John Turley and Leon O'Connor scored the Newtown goals.

The under-11s (proudly sponsored by Real Debt Solutions) were involved in a cracking game at home to Greystones Green which ended up 0-1 to the away side. There was plenty of thrills and spills, goalmouth action and near misses in the game. Best for Newtown were Aaron Roy, Nichita Neaga and William Valentine.

In a league game away to Wicklow Town our under-12s raced into a 4-0 lead as the tenth minute of the second half ticked by. Goals from Cormac Chance, Cathal O'Toole, PJ Duffy and Jake Robertson gave our team a great advantage. However, the home side rallied and finished strongly and scored three late goals. On the day Ben Synnott pulled off a series of excellent saves and he along with Brooklyn Doyle and Keira Farrelly astarred for Newtown.

Our under-13s (proudly sponsored by Adrian Dunne pharmacy) took on Carnew FC in the first leg of their Cup game. This was an evenly contested game as both sides went at each other hell for leather. Carnew led on two occasions but our team showed great character to hit back twice thanks to goals from Patrick Martin and Max Synnott. Among the players who starred were Max and Iggy Szpilka.

As we mentioned earlier the team received their brand new set of jerseys sponsored by the local Adrian Dunne pharmacy. Denise from the pharmacy presented the team with the jerseys before the game along with a number of drinking bottles. The club thanks Denise for presenting the jerseys and to Adrian Dunne pharmacy for the sponsorship.
